What is EmberTV?
EmberTV is a family-friendly, streaming platform where you can rent wholesome films without subscriptions or unwanted content. Simply rent a title on the web app and watch it instantly on your Apple TV or Roku device, or cast it to your Smart TV, Google TV or Fire TV device.
Who creates the films on EmberTV?
We partner with Catholic filmmakers, studios, and distributors who share the mission of delivering beautiful, faith-grounded stories to your home.
Do I need a subscription to use EmberTV?
No. EmberTV is entirely pay-as-you-go. Rent only the movies you want—no monthly fees, no bundles, no upsells.
How do movie rentals work?
Browse and rent films through the EmberTV web app. Once rented, your title(s) will appear automatically in the My Rentals section of the EmberTV web app and Apple TV, Roku, or Fire TV apps. Rentals remain available for the duration of the rental window.
How long do I have access to a rental?
All rentals provide a set viewing window of 24 hours once your rental purchase is confirmed.
Where can I watch my rentals?
You can watch on:
- Apple TV (via the EmberTV app)
- Roku (via the EmberTV app)
- Fire TV (via the EmberTV app)
- Any phone, tablet, or computer
- Your Smart TV by casting or screen-mirroring as supported by your device.
What is your refund policy?
We want your experience to be smooth, simple, and enjoyable. Because movie rentals unlock instantly and cannot be “returned” after viewing, refunds are limited to certain situations.
You may request a refund within 30 minutes of purchase if:
The rental was made by mistake
You purchased the wrong title
There was a duplicate transaction
You were unable to access the movie due to a technical issue
Refunds cannot be issued if:
The rental has already expired
The film was watched or partially viewed
You changed your mind after purchase
You did not attempt to troubleshoot streaming issues and contacting support.
The request is made after the 30-minute window
Our team reviews each request individually to ensure fairness. If you believe you may be eligible for a refund, you can request a refund by visiting emberstreaming.com/refunds.
How do refunds work?
Refunds are handled through EmberTV’s customer support and Stripe’s secure refund process. If a rental is refunded, access to that title will be removed from your account. To request a refund, fill out the form on the Refunds page. Refunds are typically credited back to a customer’s account within 5-10 business days.
Do you have an EmberTV app?
Yes, an app is available for Apple TV and Roku streaming devices for free. Simply search ‘EmberTV’ in the respective app stores to download/install. Please note, all rental purchases must be completed through the EmberTV web app. Once you have active rentals on your account, you can access and watch them from within the EmberTV app on either your Apple TV or Roku devices.
Can I cast or mirror EmberTV to my Smart TV?
Yes—you can cast or mirror your rentals to most Smart TVs, depending on your phone/tablet and TV compatibility.
Streaming or playback issues?
If watching from the EmberTV app on your Apple TV or Roku device:
- Check that your Apple TV, Roku, or Fire TV device is still connected to the internet.
- Try shutting down the EmberTV app completely and starting it again.
- Restart your Apple TV, Roku, or Fire TV device.
In most cases, playback issues are caused by poor internet connection.
For the best possible viewing experience, we highly recommend having your Apple TV or Roku device plugged directly to the internet by ethernet cable.
If watching from your smartphone, tablet, or computer:
Refresh the page
Restart the browser or app
Check your internet connection
Try casting to another device
Make sure no VPN is active
If the issue persists, contact support. If our system confirms a technical failure on our end, you’ll receive a refund or credit — no worries.
Is the content safe for families?
EmberTV curates films rooted in Catholic values, meaning you don’t have to scroll past inappropriate or questionable content to find something wholesome to watch. However, we cannot guarantee every movie on our platform is appropriate for all audiences. If you have concerns about a certain film in our catalog, please research before renting.
What types of films are available?
Our movie catalog includes a number of films from various genres, including documentaries, feature films, faith-based stories, family-friendly movies, and other titles produced by trusted filmmakers and partners.
Can parishes or schools rent for groups?
No. For community or public screenings, a separate parish/school screening license is required. EmberTV offers individual rentals for private personal/home use only.
Is my payment information secure?
Yes. All transactions are processed securely through Stripe, a trusted industry-standard payment provider.
Do rentals play in HD or 4K?
Yes. Most films stream in HD and/or 4K if the movie is available in that format and your internet connection supports the stream.
What kind of internet connection do I need?
For the best experience, we recommend a minimum of 25 Mbps download speed. Faster speeds ensure smoother HD/4K playback. We recommend checking your internet speed before renting if you’re not sure. Most ISPs (internet service providers) provide optimal speeds for streaming, but if you’re not sure, it’s always best to check.
You can use a tool like Fast.com or Speedtest to check if your internet connection can support streaming.
Can I watch my rentals offline?
Not at this time. EmberTV requires an internet connection to stream your rentals.
Do you support parental controls?
EmberTV’s library is fully curated, but additional parental control options are planned for future updates. If a certain film appears questionable, it’s best to hold off on renting until you’ve had a chance to research or screen the film privately yourself.
What if I don't see my rental on the EmberTV tvOS or Roku app?
Try signing out and back in on the EmberTV app. If that doesn’t work, select the Refresh button at the top-right of your app window to manually sync all active rentals from your EmberTV account.
